TCS Fresher Resume Example

A TCS fresher resume should be a plain, one-page document that shows your academic scores, programming basics and 2–3 projects at a glance, because the interviews that follow the National Qualifier Test (NQT) are built around it. State your degree CGPA and Class X and XII marks exactly as on your mark sheets, name only the languages you can actually code in, and give every internship and project a number. The sample below is for a final-year B.Tech ECE student applying for an entry-level software role, and you can download it in Word or PDF.

Tips to make your TCS fresher resume stand out

Show every academic score clearly

TCS drives check eligibility across Class X, Class XII and your degree, and the rules vary by drive. Write each score exactly as it appears on your mark sheet, never rounded up, and add 'no backlogs' only if it's true. Check the drive notification or the official TCS careers page for the current criteria before you apply.

Make your coding visible, whatever your branch

If you're from ECE, EEE, mechanical or another non-CS branch, show that you can program: name one or two languages you can write without help, link a GitHub with your project code, and add an NPTEL or HackerRank certificate. Core subjects can stay, but keep them below your programming skills. For a core-electronics version, see the ECE fresher example.

Prepare for the NQT separately

The National Qualifier Test (NQT) typically covers aptitude, reasoning, verbal ability and programming, and its pattern can change between seasons, so follow the current details on the official site. Your resume won't change your test score, but it steers the interview, so keep only the projects and skills you can explain line by line.

Use a plain format and keep both file types

Use a single-column layout with standard headings and no photo, tables or graphics. Keep a PDF for most portals and a Word copy for any form that asks for .doc or .docx, and test the file with the ATS resume checker before you upload it.

Tailor the summary, not the facts

It's fine to name TCS and the role in your summary, but don't add skills from the job post that you haven't used, because interviewers can ask about anything you list. For help with the opening lines, see resume objectives for freshers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best resume format for a TCS fresher?

Use a one-page, single-column resume with standard headings. Start with your name, contact details and a 2–3 line summary, then education with your degree CGPA and Class X and XII marks, followed by skills, internships, projects and certifications. Keep bullets short, start each with an action verb and include a number. Save a PDF and a Word copy so you can upload whichever the form asks for.

Should I mention backlogs or a gap year on my TCS resume?

Write your scores exactly as on your mark sheets and never hide a backlog or a gap. You can add 'no backlogs' next to your CGPA if it's true. If you have an active backlog or a gap year, check the eligibility rules in the drive notification first, since they vary by drive, and answer the application form honestly. Documents are verified before joining, so any mismatch can cause problems later.

Do I need to put my NQT score on my resume?

Usually not. Your NQT result is already part of the hiring process, so use the resume space for projects, skills and certifications instead. If the application form asks for your NQT details, fill them in there. If you are applying to other companies as well, keep one general resume and change only the summary and the order of skills for each drive.

Does TCS have a fixed resume format for freshers?

Follow any format or upload instructions given in the drive notification or by your college placement cell. If there are none, a plain one-page resume like this sample works well because it is easy to read and parse. This page is an independent sample made by Aucio Resume, which is not affiliated with Tata Consultancy Services. For official hiring details, use the TCS careers page.
