A financial analyst resume works when every bullet links your analysis to a business decision: a budget approved, costs cut, a price changed or an investment made. Show your modelling tools (Excel, Power BI, SQL), the size of the numbers you work with and certifications such as CFA or NISM. The sample below is for an FP&A analyst with about 4 years of experience.

Tips to make your financial analyst resume stand out

Tie every analysis to a decision

'Built a model' is a task; 'built a model that got a ₹120 crore capex approved' is an achievement. End each bullet with what the business did because of your work.

Show the scale of your numbers

Mention the budget size, the revenue of the unit you support or the value of deals you priced. It helps recruiters place you correctly between analyst, senior analyst and manager.

State CFA, FRM or NISM progress precisely

Write 'CFA Level I passed' or 'CFA Level II candidate' instead of just 'CFA'. Overstating a level is easy to verify and can cost you the offer.

Tailor for FP&A or investment roles

Corporate FP&A, equity research and credit analysis need different proof. Adjust your headline and top three bullets to the path the job belongs to.

Prove tool skills with outcomes

Instead of only listing Excel, Power BI and SQL, mention what you built or automated with them and the time or money it saved.

Frequently asked questions

What should a financial analyst resume include?

Include a headline with your specialisation (FP&A, equity research or credit), a short summary, modelling and tool skills, 2–3 roles with quantified bullets, education such as an MBA, B.Com or CA, and certifications like CFA, FRM or NISM. Each bullet should carry a number, for example a budget size, savings delivered, forecast accuracy or hours saved through automation.

Which skills matter most on a financial analyst resume in India?

Financial modelling, budgeting and forecasting, variance analysis and strong Excel are the core. Many job posts also ask for a BI tool such as Power BI or Tableau, and some ask for SQL. Add domain skills for your path: cost analysis for corporate roles, valuation and sector knowledge for research, and ratio and cash flow analysis for credit roles.

Is CFA necessary for a financial analyst resume?

No, it is not required, but progress in the CFA Program helps, especially for investment research, asset management and valuation roles. For corporate FP&A jobs, an MBA in finance, CA or CMA plus strong modelling and Power BI skills often matters just as much. If you are a candidate, state the exact level you have passed or are registered for.

How do I write a financial analyst resume with no experience?

Use a fresher layout with education and CGPA, a finance internship and 2–3 projects such as a DCF valuation of a listed company, a budget model for a college event or an equity research report. Add certifications like an NISM module or a financial modelling course. Our MBA fresher and B.Com fresher examples show how to fit internships and live projects on one page.
