Accountant Resume Example

An accountant resume should prove three things quickly: you close the books on time, you keep GST and TDS compliance clean, and you catch errors before the auditors do. Lead with your years of experience and the size of the books you handle, then show results in ₹ and days. Use the sample below as a starting point and replace the numbers with your own.

Tips to make your accountant resume stand out

Show the size of books you handle

Mention turnover, voucher volume, number of entities or bank accounts. 'Managed books for a ₹180 crore manufacturer' tells a recruiter your level far better than 'handled accounts'.

Name every return you file

Write GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9, 24Q and 26Q instead of just 'GST and TDS'. Hiring managers search for these exact terms, and applicant tracking systems match on them too.

Quantify compliance, not just tasks

Zero late fees, ITC recovered, audit observations closed and days to close are the numbers that matter in accounts. Add at least one of them to every job.

List your ERP and its version

Tally ERP 9, Tally Prime, SAP Business One, Busy and Zoho Books are different skills. Say which ones you use daily and mention any migration or integration you handled.

Skip personal details you do not need

Date of birth, father's name and marital status are not needed on a modern resume. Use that space for one more quantified bullet.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write an accountant resume in India?

Start with a headline that states your years of experience and core tools, such as 'Accountant | 6 Years | Tally Prime, GST, TDS'. Follow it with a short summary, a skills section and 2–3 jobs with quantified bullets on closing, compliance and reconciliations. End with education, certifications and languages. Keep it to two pages at most and send it as a PDF.

What should an accountant put in the skills section?

Group your skills into accounting (ledger, bank reconciliation, month-end close), tax and compliance (GST returns, TDS, e-invoicing, audit support) and software (Tally Prime, SAP, Zoho Books, Advanced Excel). Add inventory or fixed asset accounting if you work in manufacturing. Every skill you list should appear in at least one bullet with a result, so the interviewer sees proof.

Is Tally still important on an accountant resume in 2026?

Yes. Many Indian SMEs and CA firms run their books on Tally Prime, so list it clearly along with the features you use, such as GST reports, e-invoicing or cost centres. If you have also worked on SAP, Oracle, Zoho Books or QuickBooks, add them too, because larger companies and shared service centres often use ERP systems instead of Tally.

How long should an experienced accountant's resume be?

One page is enough for up to about 5 years of experience, and two pages are fine beyond that. Spend the space on your last two or three roles and cut duties every accountant does, such as 'maintained ledgers', unless you add a result. Older roles can be reduced to one or two lines each.
