Electrical Engineer (Fresher) Resume Example

An electrical engineer fresher resume should prove you have worked around real equipment, not just studied it. Open with a 2-line summary, then your B.Tech or BE CGPA, substation, plant or vocational training with numbers, and 2 projects such as a PLC motor starter or a building's electrical design. Recruiters for graduate engineer trainee (GET), site and maintenance roles also look for AutoCAD Electrical, PLC basics and safe working practice, and the sample below shows all of it on one page.

Electrical Engineer (Fresher) resume summary examples

Example 1

B.Tech Electrical graduate (8.2 CGPA) with vocational training at BHEL Bhopal and a substation internship at MPPTCL, where I logged readings for 2 power transformers and 8 feeders and supported 3 planned shutdowns. GATE 2026 qualified and looking for a GET role in maintenance or power distribution.

Example 2

Electrical engineering fresher skilled in PLC programming on Siemens S7-1200 and motor control, with a final-year star-delta starter project that cut starting current by 65%. Comfortable with control wiring, panel testing and AutoCAD Electrical, and seeking a maintenance engineer trainee role in a manufacturing plant.

Example 3

BE Electrical graduate with a building electrical design project covering load calculation, cable sizing, earthing and single-line diagrams in AutoCAD Electrical. Familiar with IS 732 and site safety practice, and looking for a site engineer role with an electrical contractor or MEP firm.

Bullet point examples for your experience

  • Monitored hourly readings of 2 power transformers and 8 outgoing 33 kV feeders during a 4-week substation internship
  • Supported isolation, earthing and permit-to-work steps during 3 planned shutdowns for breaker and CT maintenance
  • Documented routine test results for 6 power transformers, including turns ratio, winding resistance and insulation resistance
  • Programmed a Siemens S7-1200 PLC to run a star-delta starter with overload, single-phasing and phase-reversal protection
  • Cut motor starting current by 65% (26 A to 9 A) on a 3 HP induction motor with a PLC-based star-delta starter
  • Calculated an 86 kW connected load and sized cables, MCBs and MCCBs for a G+3 building with voltage drop under 3%
  • Drafted the single-line diagram and lighting, power and earthing layouts for a 1,200 m² building in AutoCAD Electrical
  • Charted 30 days of feeder load data in Excel to show daily peak demand for a substation's monthly report

Tips to make your electrical engineer (fresher) resume stand out

Name equipment and voltage levels

Write '132/33 kV substation', '3 HP induction motor' or '415 V LT panel' instead of 'electrical equipment'. Specific ratings show you were close to real equipment and give the interviewer something concrete to ask about.

Give training the detail of a job

Vocational training at a PSU, a state utility, a power plant or a factory maintenance team carries weight for GET roles. Give the department, dates and 2–3 bullets with counts, such as transformers tested, feeders monitored or shutdowns supported.

Prove PLC and AutoCAD Electrical with a project

Listing 'PLC' under skills is not enough. Add a project bullet that names the PLC, the software and what it controlled. Do the same for AutoCAD Electrical by naming the drawings you made, such as a single-line diagram or earthing layout.

Make safe working visible

Maintenance and site recruiters screen for safety. Mention lockout-tagout, permit-to-work, isolation and PPE where you followed them during training, and list any electrical safety or first-aid certificate.

Add GATE and licences where they apply

If you qualified GATE, add the paper, year and rank, because many PSUs use GATE scores to hire engineer trainees. Some states also issue an electrical supervisor competency certificate to engineering graduates; rules differ by state, so check with your state's electrical licensing board.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write an electrical engineer fresher resume?

Start with a headline naming your degree and target role, then a 2-line summary with your CGPA and strongest training. List education, internships or vocational training with numbers, 2 projects with tools and results, and skills grouped into power and distribution, automation, software and safety. Add GATE, NPTEL or PLC certificates, and keep everything on one page in a single-column layout.

What skills should an electrical fresher put on a resume?

Core skills are electrical machines, transformers, switchgear and protection basics, substation operation, earthing, load calculation and cable sizing. Add automation skills such as PLC ladder logic, motor starters and VFD basics, software like AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB and Excel, and safety practice such as lockout-tagout and permit-to-work. List only what you can explain in an interview, using the job post's terms.

Is GATE important on an electrical engineer fresher resume?

It matters most for PSU jobs, because many public sector companies shortlist engineer trainees on GATE scores, and each notification says which year's score it accepts. Most private companies hire through campus drives and interviews instead, but a good rank still shows strong fundamentals. If you qualified, add the paper, year and rank under Achievements; if not, simply leave it out.

How is a fresher electrical resume different from an experienced one?

A fresher resume leads with education, training and projects, and fits on one page. An experienced electrical engineer's resume leads with jobs, the plant systems handled, uptime and savings, and can run to two pages. See the electrical engineer resume example for how the same skills read after a few years in maintenance or projects.
