Tips to make your graduate fresher (any stream) resume stand out
Pick one type of job for the headline
'Any job' is not a target an employer can match. Choose a group of similar roles, such as operations, customer support or office executive, and write it in your headline and summary. Make a second version of the resume for a different job type instead of mixing both.
Turn your degree into skills employers use
A BA, B.Sc or B.Com teaches research, numbers, writing and presenting. Show them through work: an Excel report, a survey project, a presentation or a college event you organised. Write what you did and add a number, such as people surveyed or reports prepared.
Use internships, volunteering and part-time work
A short internship, tuition, NSS, an NGO or a family business all count. List up to 2–3 of them under Experience with dates and 2–4 bullets each. For writing your opening lines, see resume objective for freshers.
Add short, free certificates that match the job
Courses such as Google Digital Garage, NPTEL on SWAYAM or an Excel course show you keep learning. Add 1–3 that relate to the job you want, with the issuer and month. Don't list every short video course you have watched.
Keep it to one page
A graduate fresher resume should fit on one page: summary, education, experience, one project, skills, certificates and languages. Use plain headings so job portals can read it, then download it from this page as a PDF to apply or as Word to edit later.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best resume format for a graduate fresher?
Use a one-page reverse-chronological format: contact details, a 2–3 line summary with your target role, Education with degree, college, year and CGPA or percentage, then internships or part-time work, one or two projects, skills, certificates and languages. Plain headings and simple fonts work best for job portals. The sample above can be downloaded in Word and PDF.
Can I use the same resume for any job after graduation?
You can use the same base resume, but change the headline, summary and top skills for each type of job. An operations job wants Excel and process skills, a customer support job wants communication and patience, and a sales job wants targets and people skills. Matching the words in the job post helps you get shortlisted on portals.
What should a BA or B.Sc graduate with no experience write?
Write about what you have actually done: college projects, presentations, events you organised, tuition, NSS or NGO work, and any internship, even an unpaid or online one. Add computer skills you can prove, like Excel functions and typing speed, and 1–3 relevant certificates. Short bullets with numbers make a no-experience resume look clear and believable.
Should a graduate fresher write 10th and 12th marks?
Yes, most Indian employers and job portals expect at least your Class 12 details along with your degree, and many campus forms ask for Class 10 too. Write the board, year and percentage on one line each, below your degree. If space is tight on one page, Class 10 is the first line you can drop.
